Celebrity Tattoos

Arguably, celebrity tattoos are the whole reason why tattooing is so popular and so widely accepted today. A few decades ago, a tattoo was seen as evidence that someone wasn't quite 'respectable'. Tattoos, especially on women, were always a bit controversial. Famous stars and their tattoos changed all that.

When celebrities started getting tattoos and flashing them publicly, it did a lot for the public’s perception of tattooing. After all, celebrities are the closest thing we have to royalty – they tend to function as role models for the rest of us, for better or for worse. When celebrity tattoos became public knowledge, it seemed to give the rest of us permission to get inked ourselves.

Adele arrived at the 2013 Grammy Awards with a new tattoo. The fresh ink behind her ear is the letter 'A'. We can't imagine she'd get her own initial so it can be mean one thing - her son's name. Could it be 'A' for Angelo? Whatever it stands for, it's a chic tatt

Angelina Jolie, famous for her multiple tats – at least a dozen, at last count.
Angelina Jolie’s tattoos can also be a bit of a challenge for movie makeup crews to cover up – putting all that aside, though, they are a creative and fascinating expression of her individuality and personal philosophy. Examples include a saying in Arabic that means “will” or “determination”, and the phrase “know your rights” in gothic letters across the top of her back.

Teen superstar Justin Bieber has shown off a brand new tattoo on his left shoulder blade on his Instagram page. The new inking shows a picture of the Stratford Cullitons hockey team logo and he wrote: 'My grandfather always took me to the stratford culliton every Friday night this is for u Grampa ... My man @chenterios hooked it up.' Maybe he had this done to detract away from his alleged drug use dramarama…

Revealing her 13th tattoo, X Factor's Demi Lavato showed off her new inking on Twitter this week. Displaying a flock of birds on her arm, Demi didn't just have this tattoo done by anyone, oh no, she called in Hollywood's finest artist in the form of Kat Von D. Having had such an expert work on her new body art, it's no surprise that Demi loves it!

Depp’s other tattoos include a tribute to his mother and his daughter, a skull on his ankle with the words “Death is certain”, and, most puzzling, the number 3 between his thumb and index finger Johnny Depp’s tattoos express his quirky personality and sense of humor. A banner on his arm that used to read “ Winona forever”, in honor of actress Winona Ryder, was altered – or should we say edited – after his breakup with Ryder and now reads “Wino forever”!

Megan Fox has 8 designs that we know of. Most of them are text tattoos"We will all laugh at gilded butterflies," an adaptation of a quote from King Lear by William Shakespeare is one of Megan's text tattoos. The quote is scripted primarily in the Old English font. She got this tattoo on her right scapula to remind her to stay grounded and not get trapped in all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
